Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 21, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Benchtop ("Benchtop," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you use the tools, games, and pages at benchtop.tools (the "Site"). We've tried to write it in plain language.

Our approach in one sentence

Tool inputs never leave your browser — we can't see them. Game scores and your friends list are saved to your account (when you choose to create one) so streaks and friend comparisons work.

Information you enter into tools

Anything you type, paste, or upload into a Benchtop tool stays on your device. This includes text, code, tokens, files, numbers, and any other input. We do not transmit it, log it, or retain it. Because this processing happens in your browser, closing or refreshing the page clears it. This promise applies to tools only — not to optional game accounts described below.

Games accounts and social features

Daily games can be played anonymously. If you sign in (email magic link or Google), we store account and gameplay data needed for streaks, cross-device sync, and friends:

  • Account data. Email address, display name (with a numeric discriminator such as Name#1234), and authentication identifiers provided by our auth provider.
  • Gameplay data. Daily scores, win/loss, move counts, approximate play duration, a compact move log (for future integrity checks), streak counters, and an anonymous device identifier used before you sign up.
  • Friends.Your friends list, invite codes you create, and pending requests. Friends can see your display name, today's scores, and current streaks.
  • Aggregate stats. Anonymous histograms of daily scores (no names) so we can later show global percentiles without collecting extra data then.
  • Security logs. IP address may be used briefly for rate limiting abuse on write endpoints.

This data is processed by Supabase (database and auth) on our behalf. See https://supabase.com/privacy.

You may request a copy of your game account data or deletion of your account by emailing us. Deletion removes or anonymizes your profile, friendships, and identifiable scores.

Information collected automatically

While your tool inputs stay private, we do collect limited, standard information about how the Site is used, so we can understand traffic and keep the Site working well:

  • Usage and analytics data.We use Google Analytics to collect aggregate information such as pages visited, approximate location (country/region), device and browser type, referring website, and general interaction events (for example, which tools are opened). This helps us see what's useful and improve the Site. Google Analytics may set cookies and process this data in accordance with its own policies.
  • Log and technical data. Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure may automatically record standard technical information such as IP address, request time, and user agent for security and reliability purposes.

Advertising and cookies

Benchtop displays ads through Google AdSense. To do this, Google and its partners:

  • Use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads and, where applicable, to personalize the ads you see based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • May use a third-party advertising cookie to serve ads based on your interests.

You can control personalized advertising:

Visitors in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland: Before personalized ads are shown, you will be presented with a consent message asking whether you agree to the use of cookies for advertising. Your choices there govern how ads are personalized for you.

The cookies used on the Site generally fall into three categories: analytics cookies (to measure usage), advertising cookies (set by Google and its partners), and functional storage (for example, remembering your light/dark theme preference, which is stored locally in your browser and not sent to us).

You can also control or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how ads are shown but will not affect your ability to use the tools.

Third-party services

We rely on the following third parties, each governed by its own privacy policy:

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, or to object to certain processing. For tool inputs, we never receive them. For analytics and advertising, you can use the controls listed earlier. For game accounts, email us to export or delete your data.

Children's privacy

Benchtop is a general-audience site and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. We do not ask for birthdates. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Data security

We take reasonable measures to keep the Site secure. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
